Creating Room for Recovery and Connection

The Challenge

For decades, The Alano Club of Knoxville—affectionately known as “Flatiron”—has been a cornerstone of hope for individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders. Founded by members of Alcoholics Anonymous, the Club was built on one simple but powerful belief: that recovery flourishes in community. By providing a consistent, welcoming place to meet, the Alano Club has helped countless people in Knoxville find connection, accountability, and the strength to rebuild their lives.

With support from The Valentine Foundation, that mission has grown stronger than ever. A $15,000 grant helped fund major renovations that expanded the Club’s year-round capacity by 90 people, creating more room for meetings, peer support, and personal growth. The new space has transformed the Flatiron into an even more accessible and inviting environment—one where people at every stage of recovery can come together to share stories, find encouragement, and work toward lasting change.

The Valentine Foundation’s support made it possible for us to open our doors wider than ever before. Every day, we see lives changed because people have a safe, supportive place to go. That’s the real impact of your generosity.
